Because of my preconceived system of applying the medium to the substrate, I have always believed it to be without literal content. It was always meant to be ego-less and devoid of pride, that is to say, without any special personal, topical, or symbolic significance. In my most recent work, I find it more and more clear that each piece is a sensory as well as sensual response to my seeing and hearing in the natural world, much influenced by my lifetime on or near the ocean and my involvement with music. The resulting images are much the result of my inner eye, attempting to grasp and share what I internally “see”, that which is perhaps not known, but felt. In the end, they are incomplete without the viewer's response. My mentors include Agnes Martin, Robert Irwin, John Fraser, and Alec Eames Richardson among others.
